Hi
So I have 2.5 site on which a developer is currently working. The site loads in 4 secs which is slow ( according to him). He says that he can make it faster if we move it onto their servers. My current hosts say the problem is that I have alot of CSS/Js files that need to be merged.I am not sure which way to go.Is it worth moving to another host? I have no experience with this so would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Have you tried compressing the HTML and CSS files trying something like http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... ance/12088 i can not remember what plugin i used now, but only two or three available for Joomla. Plus their is also a plugin available that speeds up the backend, i had some conflict with it, so had to unplug it. Their is also other things you can try like lazyload etc. The sever depends, if its a shared host it can always be a problem. However, if the speed it persistently slow then its probably the website. if the speed slows down in pockets it probably the host. Its not easy for me to tell because my computer is so slow, but normally when Bluehost's severs get overloaded I can tell straight away and send the through a snotty email. If i was you i would install the component above a look around for other security/system/speed up plugins or components test them for a little and if they don't work got to privet hosting.

Thanks. I already tried that component but it seemed to mess up the site.
Maybe it needs alot of configuration.

Its not possible to say if 4 seconds is fast or slow without seeing the site. However it is 100 true that different hosting can produce massive differences. The only thing you can and should do is to ask the developer to clone the site on his servers and then do a comparison test.

Modules and plugins slow down a lot, how many requests do you have? With what have you measured the speed?

Well I have made a few tweaks ie jch optimize, and my Page speed score is 95.
I can't switch on all the options as it means that some things don't work.
Thanks
