Joomla 1.73 Very Very Slow - Stay with J1.6 or less

On the same server where my J1.6 installed, I installed J1.73 with 2 articles only. It takes over 10 seconds to load a page, sometimes over 30 seconds to load the home page.

Joomla 1.7xx has been nothing but headache for me.

I don't have that problem. The 1.7 sites I'm running are quick-as-a-bunny.

The number of articles has little to do with the sites loading time, maybe it's your choice of extensions. What extensions do you have installed?

I did not install any extensions yet. Very fresh Joomla site.

What hosting are you using?

Same here. I have 6 Joomla sites w/GoDaddy. Only 1.7x are slow, other are fine.

1.7 sites run faster than 1.6 or 1.5

Something must be misconfigured, or you got the cheap hosting level, or you're on an overloaded server.

Mine are running on a pair of dedicated servers, so I suppose they're predisposed to running like a striped-assed-ape.
