After 4 hours still confused.

The plan:
To create a map using maps.google.co.uk with multiple images, text boxes, route lines and icons and incorporate into a page.

What I've done so far:
Created a map, but when I paste the code into a page the iframe doesn't remain in the code but the link to the larger map to open in the same window remains. So then I thought maybe I need a plugin to do this and uploaded tech/reumer's googlemap. Frankly I was baffled by the number of parameters and that I can't make a map as I would do with maps.google. I then tried downloading a kml file, uploading it to the site and putting a link to it in the form of:

<p><span class="readonly plg-desc">{mosmap kml='http://www.parkland-walk.org.uk/images/googlemap/parklandwalkfromatob.kml'}</span></p> or

{mosmap kml='http://www.parkland-walk.org.uk/images/googlemap/parklandwalkfromatob.kml'}

The former did give me a map, but it wasn't the one I'd made and opened in the middle of the Atlantic.

Could someone explain where I'm going wrong please? Incidently, I made parklandwalkfromatob public, but I haven't figured out how find that in a search - only by looking at 'my places'

Thanks

Ok really you should be just able to go to Google maps, grab their embed code from a location or setting that you have set up there and paste it right into Joomla.

You might be having the issue where by default Joomla strips out extra code like Javascript. Same thing would happen, I assume, if you paste in a YouTube video. You could try it and it would confirm my suspicions.

If that is the case then follow this tutorial but apply it for you Google Maps embed code rather than the YouTube code obviously.

You basically need to set filtering to none for a super admin account, then this will allow you to add in the code.

Same is true with youtube as you suggested. Tried the tutorial but I didn't see a text filter tab in options. Found it in the Global Configurations main menu as a tab. It works, thanks.

I might have to update that tutorial but I'm glad it at least pointed you in the right direction.
