Still no change unfortunately.
I've tried few options and possibilities and I don't know what else to try.

Hi,

I'm using a Joomla 2.5 site in 4 different languages and have everything running well. However I can't associated one article to others in different languages, so Joomla knows it's the same article and associates it to each language.

Is there a way to do this without having to manually add every article to a menu item for each language, as we do with categories?

As it's now I have 4 different articles for the same content in no way associated. I wanted that people reading in article in English could switch to Spanish and it would redirect him automatically to the article in Spanish.

I had read the tutorial before posting and it does not address my issue unfortunately, or at least I didn't see it there.

The functionnality has been added in Joomla 3.x version. It is not available in 2.5.

Hi guys,

I am new on this forum so I would require a bit of assistance. In order to improve my website I decided to go for multiple languages.
The initial site had en-UK language installed with Romanian content. Then, I installed the ro-RO language. Afterwards, studying various tutorials I started on my own to modify the structure. I created besides the Main Menu (ALL), the English Menu and the Romanian Menu, categories: All, English, Romanian; I batch copied the articles linked to the ALL Main Menu into the Romanian Menu and I changed the language accordingly (from All to Romanian); I did the same with the English Menu where I changed the language and translated the contents.
Then I activated the language switcher, the language code and filter, multilingual status. (I am sorry for the entire history but I wanted you to know all the steps I took until now).
After doing all these, when I click the English icon on the site, the content doesn't change but remains the same. Before I hadn't removed the /en & /ro suffixes so I could see that the switcher did not change anything.

So where is the problem? Is there anything else I should keep in mind?

Regards,

This looks OK.
The issue may be elsewhere.
Please test with a default core template as Beez to see if the issue is not related to the template you are using. (It is advised to create one template style per language)

I tried all the available templates and besides the one I use (business8) but unfortunately in neither the multilingual switcher is working (not displaying at all). As to the template style, it would be a bit tricky for a beginner to attempt having more styles.
I will try to check again everything I have. As an addendum, I have tried the SEF's option for multilingual site while disabling the default joomla language switcher but that didn't work either.

If you like, I can have a look at your site. I would need superuser access.
Please use PM or mail and refer to this topic if you decide so

As I suggested above, one issue is with your template.
It does not let change the default mainmenu per language (see Profiles and page assignments per template styles).

The other issue is that you use 404SEF and it looks like the urls there are wrong.

Thank you so much,

I will try to see if the template can be modified to allow more than one language and to figure out the urls. If not I will probably look for another template that allows multiple languages.

I was able to activate the multilingual content and also preserve the url rewriting capability. On the template page at Language & Profile assignments, besides All Page (below Pages) and English (below Profiles), I added all the Romanian menus and the Romanian default language; on the Global configuration page I ticked the "Use URL re-writing" option.

Thanks for the inspiration JM :)
