I am not sure what is causing this, but my links look like this
http://www.artistmanagementresource.com ... management

Is there any way to clean them up, that's a horrible looking URL :(

Thanks!

I would check the aliases of menu links, as well as aliases of categories.
Once I didn't specify alias for an item, which should normally create the alias from the name, but instead, I got similar alias than you have, so maybe thats the problem.

When I look at the article, the alias is set to:
the-artists-guide-to-management

Menu alias is also set to:
the-artists-guide-to-management

There is no category, it's in "uncategorized".

However I do recall not setting the alias as I usually don't as it makes it from the title name. What do you recommend I do?

EDIT
I tried to delete the menu items and re-create them and type in the alias before saving, but I still get dates in the links. I don't want any dates in the links. This is such an odd behavior.

My SEF URLS settings are:
Search Engine Friendly URLs
Yes
Use URL rewriting
Yes
.htaccess is enabled
Adds Suffix to URL
No
Unicode Aliases
No
Include Site Name in Page Titles

Any ideas what else to try?

Try to turn the SEF off, and see what happens with your urls.
Then try to turn rewriting off.
I do not know what else can be causing this, but I will think about it. If anything comes to my mind, I will post here. GL

I'm now getting this issue on several sites... frustrating..

When I turn of SEF and URL re-writing, I get the regular, core Joomla URLS (the ugly ones) that look like this
http://linux6.hypmedia.com/luckycat/ind ... Itemid=162

When I leave SEF on and I turn URL re-writing off, I get the following:
http://linux6.hypmedia.com/luckycat/ind ... or-adotion
So I have the index.php and the ugly numbers.

I have even tried the following today and it doesn't fix a thing:

    Went to main menu
Selected the entire adoption menu and trashed
Selected "Status" trashed and emptied trash
I Checked all remaining items and "Check in" just for the heck of it
I clicked 'rebuild' just for the heck of it

Went to categories to select status "all" to see if there were any trashed items, there were none.

Went to articles and selected status "trashed" and emptied the trash.

Then just for safe measure I went to Site >> Maintenance and purged expired cache, cleared cache and did a checkin.

Then I went back to main menu to recreate my Adoption menu:

I only put 1 entry in and put the alias in manually, and the numbers show up. I even put in a different alias this time and used cats-available-for-adotion to be on the safe side

So after deleting everything and re-creating, the same issue happens.
http://linux6.hypmedia.com/luckycat/201 ... or-adotion

Could this be a bug? I've noticed it since the last upgrade of Joomla 2.5.

Thanks again for any assistance or help!

I found this suggestion on one forum, dealing with similar difficulties:
The category name seems to contain non-English character. If this is the case, you have enable the UTF-8 URL option in the Global Configuration.

Interesting. The category I am using is the default "uncategorized" from a demo installation though.

So interestingly here is the issue/solution...

On older versions of J! you could use a Javascript Void or a # sign in conjunction with "External URL" as a placeholder for a dropdown menu anchor link. J2.5 clearly does not like this behavior so you have to do the root link as a Text Separator and then it takes out those numbers.

So the basic rule is don't use JS Void Javascript: void(0) or # for anchor Menu Items and you should be just fine.

Thanks for helping me find the answer!

I am glad to hear your problem is solved.
Did you find the answer in that forum post?

Yes I did. I tried one of their solutions and that worked. They suggested hashtag, but i was using JS Void... same issue occurs for both. Thanks!
