I have a problem but I don't know what to make of it. Below the facts, your ideas or solutions please.

In Google webmaster some pages have high (eg. 22) numbers of internal links while in fact they have not.
One page is supposed to be linking to many of my dictionary pages while it isn't and it never was.

I have checked the HTML in administrator, no links. When I check the HTML in the browser, nothing strange.

In my daily site traffic report that is running on my server i see many 404's around 60% of my traffic.

While navigating the site you will not run into broken links.

My XMAP is fine, I use no other SEF or SEO extensions

Played around a bit with the navigation in the past, used the popular article module, but not anymore.

My settings are. use SEF yes, rewrite URL no, add suffix no, unicode no, include site name no. Never changed them.

What is going on?

Is it possible to solve this without resorting to more extensions?

Yes, did you checked if it is OLD DATA? Sometimes it took some time until the google bot will update.

You can also use Xenu Seo Tool to check it out ( just google pls )

I have exactly the same problem, only noticed it when I tried to get a sitemap created.
Joomla 2.5.6 Vmart 2.0.8

When browsing the site the links work fine but when you run a link checker all your get are 404 errors.
I have SEF turned on and URL rewrite. The mod_rewrite is working, have tested it.

If you turn SEF off there are no problems
