Hi

I wanted to double check to see if I have covered all angles

I have currently built a new joomla website, to replace an old html site

I intend to use a redirect plugin (ReDJ) to create a 301 redirect for each individual page...

Will I need to ensure that the old content and meta descriptions are on the new page, or is the redirect on its own good enough - and create new meta descriptions?

is there anything else I need to consider to ensure a successful switch?

Thanks in advance

Hi Welshay,

a) If you old titles & meta descriptions were good and got you good search engine rankings, then there is no harm in keeping them. Redirecting does not copy your old details across so you will still need to add them to the new site.

b) If your rankings were not so good before, then consider re-writing them. Enter your keyword into google and see what comes at the top, them emulate (not copy) them for a better chance at higher rankings.

c) You can also let Google know you have moved your site in Google Webmaster tools where you can also tell Google to 301 all requests to the new site.

thanks for the help...

would you suggest copying all content and meta tags in to the new site and have them hidden in the background

the website is getting a decent ranking at present

...alternatively would redirecting the old url's to the new page (with the same meta data) be suitable.

I don't want to loose any ranking if at all possible

thanks again
