hello all,

my website has been struggling horribly with its SEO For a long time now, it was once sat proudly at the top of google for its keywords, now it floats in and out of the top 40 pages of results.

I believe the reason is something to do with the below (A paste from google webmaster tools HTML suggestions)

Meta description Pages
Duplicate meta descriptions 3,828
Long meta descriptions 0
Short meta descriptions 1,662

Title tag Pages
Missing title tags 1
Duplicate title tags 1,932
Long title tags 0
Short title tags 0
Non-informative title tags 30

Look at all those duplicates. Can someone tell me step by step how I can fix this? I have Joomla 2.5 and sh404sef addon installed (proper paid version)

I am really desperate now, I have tried a lot. My website is not something that took a short time, and its not even for profit. But I was very proud to have it at the top where it belonged because people actually LIKE it - But now no one new can even find it :/

This is one example of the pages - this one has NINE DUPLICATES

Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES) Sprites and Backgrounds

What I want to know is, how can I get rid of all those horrible URLS and keep only ONE That I specify? In this case /super-mario-bros-2-sprites?

Where would I find out? I'll check?

Generally my links from Menu are links to ARTICLE PAGE and a few to CATEGORY LIST LAYOUT

If you have a blog with pagination it will create Duplicate Meta Tags problem like yoursite.com/blog will have same meta tags for all the pages yoursite.com/blog/page1, yoursite.com/blog/page2 and so on

You may further try to use some SEO component like ACESef Basic as it helps you to generate the metatags automatically and minimizes the duplication of meta tags.

I don't think it is related to pagination.
The bug question is what is the weight of your duplicated meta tags content out of your total page.
Are your pages being updated? Do they content alot of javascript? Did something happend to their speed load? these are more important questions you'll need to berify before the duplicated meta tags as it might be side factor.

This kind of problems raise mostly due to dynamic URLS and repetitive Titles and meta tags. First of all check with your developer and make it search engine friendly URLS and make a way to add title and meta tags manually.
