A recent post about multiple URL's triggered the memory of a discussion I had on the Google Webmaster forum some time ago. I had other things to do so this topic got lost.

If you do Adwords you have to make sure that ad and landing page are tied in to get a high relevance score. The concept of adwords forces you to do very nichy ads in order to keep the costs down.

So for example instead of targeting the search term "Facemask" it pays to do "Motorcycle Facemask", "Motorcycle Touring Facemask", "Dirt Bike Facemask", .....
In order to have a relevant landing page you basically take the same article and change it according to your target audience in keywords, images,...
The Google Spam team considers this multiple content and punishes you for it. I'm not going to go back to the lengthy discussion of how to satisfy Spam AND Adwords team that even involved Matt Cutts but their only solution is using the canonical tag that points all the specific/nichy pages to one generic page.

Does anybody have a good working solution to implement this in Joomla 2.5? I use sh404sef by the way so I don't have issues with multiple URL for one page. This is about telling the crawler what page to index so to go back to the example: Insert a canonical tag on the specific "Motorcycle Facemask" landing page that points Google to the generic (menu accessible) Facemask page.
