Hey,
I'm looking to better understand the basic or not so basic SEO options offered in the joomla core.

I know on each article I can to the the "Publishing & MetaData" tab and enter page descriptions and keywords that are in addition to the pages actual content.

Also, under Global Configuration and the "Site" tab there are more site-wide SEO options and areas to fill out.

Apart from these two areas and their features, has anyone used anything, other components/plugins, other methods, etc., and had great success with it?

Specifically I'm looking for advice beyond the two above areas.

Thanks!

hey
another built in option is system cache plugin - making use of user's browser caching
i can also recommend from my own experience two extensions:
SEO Simple - for automatic tag and title generation
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/site-management/seo-a-metadata/meta-data/4102
JCH Optimize for compression of css and js, you have to play with settings to get it work for your site
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/core-enhancements/performance/site-performance/12088
Do you have 301 redirect to canonical url in your .htaccess? If not, that is also quite important.
I hope it will help you a little bit.

Regards

Adam

Hey idemsisvoje,
Thanks for your reply. I have used JCH optimize on some of my sites, it seems to do good work although you're right, it does take some tweaking to get the settings right to work for each site.

I'm not familiar with the other one you listed, SEO Simple, but I'll check it out.

How do you set up the cache plugin? I have one site that seems to have cache'ing issues, it always gets to 13 in the quick cache clean function in the admin area. It's odd, then it's caused some CSS files to not take effect..

Yeah, I also used to have difficulties with cache plugin, but only on Joomla! 1.5, since I run 2.5 version, everything has been alright.
The function to clean cache in admin affects only system cache, it has nothing to do with browser cache (cache plugin). Try to flush your browser cache by hitting CTRL+F5
