How to make a Joomla template responsive/mobile friendly? I've searched the web and all I could find was extensions. I need to make one that is custom, but not sure where to start.

best thing to start with is a framework, this will give you a base which then you can remove what you don't want, but give you something to start from

Twitter bootstrap appears to be a popular framework, and i believe is what Joomla 3.0 is using.

google it.

Thanks, bewebdev! So when you say "and i believe is what Joomla 3.0 is using", do you mean that the 3.0 Joomla database itself has a built in feature that converts templates for mobile devices, or do you mean the default template in the 3.0 are mobile friendly?

i would presume the templates that come with Joomla, one would think one would be responsive. We have just started to implement responsive design. Using the same framework.

For us it seems to be the framework that is the lightest in terms of not over designed. Never like templates with umpteen module positions, and to many back end overrides, we prefer plain templates have more control over.

Thanks again. Now if I can just figure out the key to plugging in all the files to Joomla 2.5 specific. I downloaded the bootstrap files, and have implemented the js and css files, but it's not working. Is there any special tags or php code that I need to include as well?

Also, I downloaded the alpha 3.0 Joomla database and the templates as of right now do not look to be any different, or have extra coding for mobile/responsive design. I was curious to find an example that was already implemented into the template. I've downloaded a few free responsive Joomla templates, but I cannot make heads or tails on how they've made it work. I need a simple guide or example so I can include it into my designs.

I would not recommend using Joomla 3 just yet, it wont be complete (very buggy... Sorry Joomla team) and in terms of bootstrap try http://www.joostrap.com/joomla-bootstrap-rwd-starter-template it isn't free (now) but its a step in the right direction.

Hi Chaps

To give you a very brief overview of the Joostrap Base Template - have a look at the following PDF (this is part of some new documentation I am creating for the JooStrap Base Template).

http://www.joostrap.com/joostrap_basics_v2.pdf

Shout if you need advise.

Cheers
Phil

There are quite a few responsive Joomla templates available now, a good run down of some of the best can be found here: http://www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/m ... templates/

My own, OneWeb, is now on v2. You can see it at joomlafuture.com
