Beez 5 template

Does anyone know where I can find some information on trying to customize the Beez 5 template, specifically the ieonly.css even more specifically - the IE8 browser.
I have a page that works with everything except IE 8 and making css modifications to the ieonly.css file produces no results whatsoever. Horizontally the page works, but vertically - the page is a mess! I've seen the standard 'customize the Beez 5 template' tutorials - but no answers there, unless i missed something.
