Error on saving in template manager 'save failed' Joomla

I have just tried changing the default template in joomla 2.5.4. When I go into the template itself in template manager and try to alter the profiles etc I cannot save. When I click on the save button it says 'save failed'. When I click on the Save & Close button it says 'save failed' and something about additional dialogs??? It is also happening on other templates.

Any help here greatly appreciated.
