Can I use joomla to create an online ordering system?

Hello there, I am looking to create a website where users can create an account, log in and order products such as canvases by uploading their artwork and filling in a form, then adding the payment details.
I also have a design I did in photoshop and hoping to make the site look pretty close as possible to this. Is this possible using Joomla? Does anybody have any recommendations about extensions that I may be able to use? As i am not sure where to start. Any help will be greatly appreciated thank you!

You should start by looking for the best shopping cart that will do what you need it to. Don't exclude third party carts until you see whether or not there's a Joomla extension for it (like the bridge for Open Cart, Ecwid, etc.). In fact, using a third party cart works pretty well rather than using Virtuemart - as long as the bridge developer keeps supporting/updating their extension.

Yes you can. Go to emmorance extension in the extension tab in joomla. You can use any extension you like. Try ones like J2store, ecart and etc.

J2store helped me with a payment gate for Payfast.co.za. And it only to them +/- 4 days to do it.

And you can down load the basic plugin for free !!!!
