This has been bugging me to no end. I feel like I have tried everything, JoomGallery, Phoca, RSGallery2. All have significant problems.

I need: Front end upload for all registered users. Anything else is extra, would really like option to require approval/moderation, vote, comments, descriptions. These seem like basic things?!

Phoca: I love the simplicity of this gallery but for some reason can only upload images from the front end as a super user despite all permission changes.
RSGallery2: This is too powerful without options, users looking like they can edit all images is no good, this would work great if there was just an "add image" option instead of the complete my gallery menu.

What out there will work for me? This is critical I thought I had it working with Phoca. Thank you.

Is there nothing that fits the bill? Seems like this should be a common request yet a couple threads over the past couple months have gone unanswered.

Hi,
I do not see why you cannot use JoomGallery, besides being free it has loads of settings that you can configure for different user groups, not to mention the wealth of plug ins that is made available to you; the only thing that it probably lacks is perhaps a bit of styling which I think you can manage somehow.

There is another extension that I will recommend is SIMGallery, it is meant for user driven sites and works nearly like it's facebook counterpart. Though it is priced at around $80, you can have a look around the demo site to see if it suits your needs.

Joomla really boasts of a great deal of extension for media content and this is one reason why I so much like it and am trying my own bit to learn as much of it as possible. I hope you do find a solution soon. Just out of curiosity though, what images would your members upload? Are you building a photography website? I am a photography enthusiast myself so please don't mind my intrusion.

Regards!

Thank you, will give JoomGallery another try, if only because I cannot remember why I disliked that one, also a lot better with Joomla than I used to be after this project :D. This is for a car club so users will submit pictures of cars and events, the gallery is a feature not the main point (hence shying away from paid extensions). I am a graphic designer at heart and it serves as a constant frustration that the skills do not cross over as well as I would like :D.

Thanks for sharing the details of your project!
I really do think JoomGallery would be the best solution for you, for the car club members it would also be absolutely hassle free to manage while the users will find the front end to be extremely intuitive with an array of options to play with. You know, it might be a bit weird but I feel one of the single most surprising packages available with Joomla that also sets it apart from it's counterparts is JoomGallery, I still can not believe they offer it for free!

I see that you are a graphic designer so you should know your way around a few of the creative vector / raster based illustration softwares available in the market, I am a big fan of Art Rage, used to learn painting once and I can now play with it without caring to spoil my scribbling more than once, it's a great extension for me.
I bet you design very beautiful and elegant websites, again thanks for sharing the stories, wish you a great day!

Regards,
Dhruba
