Tourist website

Post by Potus001 » Mon Aug 20, 2012 1:40 pm

I am in the process of developing a non-commercial website for a seaside resort.

I have decided on 3 menu items for the moment.
Each menu item may consist of multiple tabulated articles and each article may consist of
  • Title
  • Image or image slidehow
  • Description
  • Ratings
  • Comments box
The articles would be in alphabetical order, by Title.

These items, needless to say, will be independant of any other article.
Any advice on good free plugins for Images and Ratings would be appreciated.
Has anyone used sliComments for comments?

Outside of Joomla, I would have created a macro (or subroutine) which I could call with all the necessary parameters.

How would I do this within Joomla? I have no javascript expertise.

Would I need to create a plugin to achieve this?

For the Title, Image/Image Slideshow, and Description, I'd check out djImage Slider here: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... show/13119

I don't know if any sliders that also supports comments and ratings, but if you were able to embed a slider into an article, your article could support ratings and comments, and what you are trying to accomplish would work well there.

For simple comments, I've used this plugin: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... ents/16412

I'm not sure on ratings, but if you do a search through the Joomla extensions directory, you should be able to find one (http://extensions.joomla.org)

I don't know any extension with all function: image slideshow, rate and comments. You should use separated extensions. The rate and comment extensions you can use for article, too.

Image slideshow you can use Phoca, JoomGallery or JSN ImageShow. All are easy to insert photo gallery to every places you want.

Comment you can use RokComments. It allows you to use any comment platform: ID, disqus...

I've tried djImage Slider but there's only a download for J1.5 and does not work for 2.5.6 although they do state they have a 2.5 version which, apparently, has just been released

Have contacted their support but no reply as yet.

Thanks for all comments so far.

You can download DJImage Slider for 2.5 from here: http://dj-extensions.com/downloads/cat_ ... age-slider You'll need to create an account with them (free), and then you can download it.

Sorry, I have just checked and, although it says 2.5, the download is only for 1.5 and it won't install.

I have an account.

Following on from the above, is there an extension that will allow me to list all articles within a category on one page? It must have a sort order, even if only by title.

I have looked in Joomla Extensions and there seems to be a considerable number of them so it would be nice to have a recommended one.
If you have a site that I could look at then that would be appreciated.

Joomla's core "Category Blog Layout" should handle this. I don't believe there's a need for an extension here. You can order these pages either by date (newest or oldest first), or by whatever order you want to set manually.
