[SOLVED] Mobile template extension
Hello!
I'm using Oracle Linux 6 and, for now (php < 5.3.10), I can't upgrade to joomla 3.
I'm trying to find a way to maintain my site's current appearance when accessing from a desktop, but also to use a more mobile friendly interface for mobile users.
I've found the following template http://extensions.joomla.org/extension/mobiletemplate
which apparently does that.
Probably my setup is wrong, but when reading the official template information I get:
"1. The mobile site left-hand menu is configurable by entering the name of the menu module. If you don't have a menu yet, you will need to create one in Module Manager."
I've created a module called module_nav (as it it what is expected), of type "menu" and even created a new menu and populated with test items, but so far, the menu doesn't work and what I see in the desktop version is the same as in the mobile version.
can someone please provide me some clarification about the use of this template?
Thanks and regards.
Dave.

Re: Mobile template extension
It seems you haven't enabled the "System - Mobile Template" plugin. Also, it is the module's position that must be module_nav.

Re: Mobile template extension
Thank you for the reply. I've uninstalled it and run clean install and activation with the same result.
Maybe someone could explain me the basics.
-My plugin is active; I've selected iPhone on the filters and now it seems I can't remove the selection?
-On the template manager, I have it assigned to a new menu with only one item for testing purposes. Do I have to have a different menu for mobile or can I just select the same items in the regular menu?
-Also on the template manager, I have "Module name of left nav: mobile_nav". This doesn't seem linked to anything, as it only appears to be a name?
I'm kind of lost at this moment, nothing seems to work.
Thanks and regards.

Re: Mobile template extension
Now I get the mobile look even on my desktop...and the menu doesn't work. Completely lost.
Can't I use the same mainmenu?

Re: Mobile template extension
Yes - you can use the same menu (even the same module). But, it seems that you have disabled the main template and only enabled the mobile template.

Re: Mobile template extension
Thanks for the reply. Ok, so now I just have one menu which is assigned both to "Main Menu" and "Mobile_Nav".
I have a module also called "mobile_nav" which is of the type "Menu" with position "mobile_nav" and with all menu items available selected.
I have a "themza_j25_35 - Default" as the default template and a "mobiletemplate - Default" which is "assigned". When this mobile template is assigned to all the menus, I can only see the mobile version of the site on the desktop, but the menu doesn't work. If I select just a menu item on the mobile template menu assignment I have a mobile version for that menu item both on my desktop and mobile. But still the menu doesn't work.

[SOLVED]Re: Mobile template extension
Solved, except for windows mobile. After desperation for a few days ... I've managed it to work with a simple setup. It turns out that the site I was using to emulate the mobile devices was not functioning as expected (http://mobiletest.me/).
It also turns out that the "mobiletemplate - Default" doesn\'t even need to be assigned.
It seems ok now.
Thanks

Re: [SOLVED] Mobile template extension
I'm late to the party on this thread but I am having a problem with this.
We have this mobiletemplate - Default in there. I found out that on an iPad, the menu wasn't showing up and it was also listed as "Mobile_Nav" and I don't have a "mobile_nav" module so I changed it to "Menu" for the main menu. Now if I view the template in my browser like this: http://www.gchsbands.org/index.php?tp=1 ... teStyle=11 I can click the menu and it's there.
However, still if I load it up on an iPad, it doesn't show the menu. I have flushed cache, I have tried a new iPad and more. It doesn't show up.

Re: [SOLVED] Mobile template extension
If it shows up on some mobile browsers and others don't, it might be an activation/deactivation issue in
Plug-in Manager: System - Mobile Template
Select/deselect filters and it should work.
good luck
