Why only 777 works ???

Post by songor2000 » Fri Apr 22, 2016 7:08 am

Hi All

Please help. I checked most folders are Unwritable. Many articles say set folder permission 755 should work. But I tried that and it does not work. It works only when I change it to 777. What am I missing here ?? Is it because they are owned by 'root' ??? Below are examples.

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 May 4 2015 logs
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jul 30 2015 tmp

Cheers

@Ribo that won't resolve a thing.

@songer2000 You have ownership and permission issues. (Apache2 handler) I assume from your post that you cannot install anything. So go https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Global_configuration and scroll down to FTP-setings or contact your host and ask then to CHOWN the 'www' (root) to "user" or at least change the owner so you can upload. The alternative is enabling the FTP-layer as explained in the article but for sure do not set the files/folders different from 755 (folders0 and 644 (files) give them '777' and you open the door widely for hackers

I just want to show him with fpa results that he has permission issue and his host must fix it.
