I have a site built on Joomla! 1.5

I recently built a new site for the same client in Joomla! 2.5, wrote a new template to match the old one (attempts at converting 1.5 template were fruitless), successfully imported all of the users and articles with J2XML, and now I have 2 sites on the server:

The Joomla! 1.5 site in the folder, /mysitename

The Joomla! 2.5 site in the folder, /mysitename2

I know I can do a simple redirect on the server to point to the new installation, but is there are good reason I couldn't do this:

1.) Rename /mysitename to /mysitenameold
2.) Rename /mysitename2 to /mysitename

Any consequences for either the Joomla! 2.5 install or for SEO?

if old site and new site contain same structure wont be a problem.

make sure new site wont return too many 404s

then it wont affect SEO

If its on a shared hosting or there is a control panel of some description you may well be able to simply redirect the domain to the different directory.
