Is there a way to repair a jpa file that is corrupt? I downloaded via FTP using Auto. How can I tell if it is really corrupt? If Kickstart says it is not a JPA file is there anything I can do to repair it?

Was this a recent backup?

Within your FTP did you specify a Transfer Type of Binary?

No, I had it on Auto, not Binary.

The Akeeba documentation states that you must download your .jpa file in binary mode or it will be corrupt. See this page:

https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentat ... files.html

In the future you can test your backups by using XAMPP. Following the steps in the below post should get you going on how to do that. (Do note that "bluehost" was that persons host he was using so you can ignore that)

viewtopic.php?f=622&t=719606&hilit=+bluehost

As for a way to "fix" a corrupt .jpa file I am not sure.

Auto mode in FTP clients works really well with all common file extensions, as they know which should be downloaded/uploaded in which mode. Since .jpa is a "proprietary" format your FTP client won't know how to handle it automatically.

This is kind of strange. I had the host recover and did another Akeeba backup. This time I moved all the files manually to clear out the Root. I moved the newly created .JPA file to the root via cPanel and with the Kickstart.php. When I ran Kickstart it said the .jpa file was not a valid .jpa file. I had not moved the .jpa file via FTP this time...only Cpanel. Does this mean Akeeba created an invalid .jpa file? No FTP involved this time. I gave up with the .jpa file and just moved the new site to the root. It worked but I don't like not understanding what happened and why I had an invalid .JPA file.
