Problem installing upgrade from 2.5.4 to 2.5.9

Joomla versions 2.5, 1.7 and 1.6 are all end-of-life since December 31st 2014 and are no longer supported. Please use Joomla 3.x instead.

Problem installing upgrade from 2.5.4 to 2.5.9

My system says I can upgrade from 2.5.4 to 2.5.9. When I go in and see "Joomla! Update, Installed Joomla! Version 2.5.4 and Latest Joomla! Version 2.5.9", and click on "Install the Update", nothing happens. I see the next screen that says
" Joomla! update in progress
Bytes read
Bytes extracted
Files extracted" but see nothing next to it.

It will stay that way until the system logs off if I leave it alone for a while. I've tried several times.
I've also done this: "Extensions → Extension Manager and open the Update tab.
Click on the Purge Cache icon to clear out the cache."

Can anyone help? Unfortunately I can't install JoomSocial until I have it updated - I get an error for installing saying I need 2.5.9.

My Host is Site5.

I got it fixed using the direct URL route in extension manager.

I believe my issue was that my host server was timing out before the update could complete. I found a post that said to try it directly from the Joomla server where the update was located. Let me explain what I did:

In the backend of Joomla in Site/Control Panel, I clicked into the Joomla Updates icon (in the middle on bottom) and looked at the URL they were giving for the suggested URL for my upgrade, instead of clicking on the install button, I copied that URL, then went into Extensions/Extension Manager/Install tab and pasted that URL into the Install From URL box. I'm guessing this worked because it went directly to the URL without having to go through Joomla thus timing out.

I notified my host about this and they said it was probably a timeout issue and to let them know the next time I can't update and they'll look into it.
