Auto ugrading: "Install path does not exist"
Dear All,
My test site upgraded to 1.6.4 OK using the extension manager but live site gives:
JFolder::create: Could not create directory
Install path does not exist
Error updating COM_INSTALLER_TYPE_TYPE_.
I am looking into what differences there are between test and live (maybe due to test in subdir "joomla16" but live not?) but meanwhile have you any clues?
Regards
Geoff

Re: Auto ugrading: "Install path does not exist"
About same errors upgrading 1.6.5 => 1.7 via Extension Manager: Update
JFTP: : write: Bad response
Install path does not exist
Error updating COM_INSTALLER_TYPE_TYPE_.
Tab "warnings" says:
PHP Upload Size bigger than POST size.
The value of the upload_max_filesize in the php.ini file is greater than the post_max_size variable. The post_max_size variable will take precedence here and block requests larger than it. This is generally a server misconfiguration when trying to increase upload sizes. Please increase the upload_max_filesize to at least match the post_max_size variable or vice versa
Is ther a solution for this problem?

Same issue here. I have found that nobody ever answers questions at least ones that I have posted. Very disheartening.

Re: Auto ugrading: "Install path does not exist"
Same problem here:
if i push the find updates button:
Update: :Extension: Could not open /extension.xml
(if i push it again, the error disappears.)
And this error when i try to update joomla 1.6.5 to 1.7 (or another extension)
JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file
Install path does not exist
Error updating COM_INSTALLER_TYPE_TYPE_.
I've tried every solution out there (regarding php.ini, configuration.php, htaccess), except unzipping the archive first, that probably will work. The extension manager is pointless, it has actually never worked exept for the early beta or alfa.

I haven't given any because I haven't had the expertise to offer a solution If there was something that I had the answer to, I would be more than happy to supply the resolution that I found.tvoeten wrote:How many answers did you give already?thurmma wrote:Same issue here. Re: Auto ugrading: "Install path does not exist"
First step is to double check your tmp and log setup in your configuration.php... Sounds like some of you have done it... I have run into a hosting service where there was excess joomla extension packages in the /tmp joomla was reading, yet when I checked my ftp access there was nothing in that directory... When I did ftp the file I wanted to install to /tmp, it did not find that one, but the 'excess' I never had... A trouble-ticket to the hosting service was sent back as 'no problem found' however as soon as I tried again, it worked fine....
If I give you an outside solution, I have no affiliation with that product. I may use it, but that is the end of the relationship.

Re: Auto ugrading: "Install path does not exist"
In my instance of this error....
JFolder::create: Could not create directory
Install path does not exist
I found the jupdate folder in root had 444 permissions set and my configuration.php was also 444.
I changed the jupdate to 777 and the configuration.php to 644 and then deleted the jupdate folder, ran the update again and it worked. The new jupdate folder now has a tmp folder nested inside it.
Hope this helps.

Re: Auto ugrading: "Install path does not exist"
I'm having the same error. When I'm running the Update via Extension Manager from Joomla 1.6.6 to Joomla 1.7, I get installation errors like sparmeg posted earlier.
After the error, the Update function tells me that there are no updates available like:
There are no updates available at the moment. Please check again later.
The strange thing is that the footer in Joomla backend say Joomla 1.6.6, while the "Joomla CMS" row in manage extensions table has version 1.7.0-pre. See screenshot in attached image.
What is wrong, please help.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: Auto ugrading: "Install path does not exist"
I was having the problem as well. I went to the Joomla root folder and did:
chown -R apache *
That fixed it. I assume because my web server runs as the user "apache" so in order for the Joomla to write to that directory you would either have to change the permissions to 777 (probably not a good idea) or change the file owner to apache.

Re: Auto ugrading: "Install path does not exist"
You'll have to change it back if you want to use FTP to update your webspace. If you have used that only the first time to get Joomla there, then there is no problem. I would have used the FTP layer in Joomla instead. That allows you to continue to use FTP from your PC and do anything from the Joomla administrator.
Too late now, unless you have root access or request the owner to be set back.
In the mean time there are other security settings that allow both Joomla(apache) and you to maintain your webspace. Maybe you can ask your provider or other providers.

Re: Auto ugrading: "Install path does not exist"
This problem usually occurs when there is no enough permissions. If you have checked your permissions and yet the same thing happens, it might be the server settings.
Also try to check if the tmp and log path are correct.
you may also try updating your joomla version manually by uploading the files using ftp and overwrite the old ones.
Hope this helps.

What worked for me:
I looked in the tmp directory and did find a .zip file called "com_jce_2324.zip" I changed the permissions from 644 to 755. and after I clicked update in the backend, every thing worked just fine

Re: Auto ugrading: "Install path does not exist"
This actually worked. I did the same thing as you have said. I changed the permissions of K2_v2.6.8.zip to 7.5.5 in temp folder. It worked like a charm! Thyanks

All I needed to do was cleaning (-> deleting everything) from /tmp. Maybe a good habit anyway ...

Re: Auto ugrading: "Install path does not exist"
I went to Extension Update menu and selected Update Sites. Then clicked on the URL for the update I needed. The XML should list a line of the zip file etc that you need to install. Of course mine was a single zip file. If yours it the main Joomla you might have to dig deeper to find the file you need. Possibly another xml file with it in it.
In my case it was the T3 Framework I needed to update. I found the line for the zip file and put that in the URL and downloaded it. After I downloaded the file I could go back to Install and load it as if I was doing and install from a file.

I don't think that's the right way to reply. Some of us don't have enough experience to answer questions, and come here seeking clarifications on issues where we're stuck.
