permissions in joomla 1.7.2?

Post by christi2 » Sun Nov 06, 2011 11:07 pm

O.K. I just tried setting up my first Joomla website.
I got a host. I downloaded the latest version 1.7.2 and unzipped it and uploaded it to my site. Then I got an error message saying that Configuration php writeable was set to "no". That was in the Joomla web installer. In my instructions it said to contact your host and get them to fix it. I did that and they said:
"The issue is simply that the permissions were not set on the configuration.php file"
Did I do something wrong? Or are the permissions not set right for everyone? Will this happen on every Joomla site I try to set up?
Please advise if you can.

It sounds like your Host's server is badly configured.

Delete the folders/files
Use your Host's CP to upload the Joomla full package zip. And unzip directly on the server.
Then point your Browser at the site.

See if that helps.

Hi Webdongle,

Thanks for the advice. My host sorted it out at their end, so this time it is not a problem. But if it happens again I will try the unzipping on their server thing. I was worried that it was a bug in the Joomla files.
