Fresh install 2.5.4 over existing 2.5.1 what will remain?

Fellow Joomla fans, I currently for some reason have an 500 error on the website, everything is unchanged before it stopped working. Tried a couple of things, but don't work.

Can I do a fresh install of 2.5.4 over my existing 2.5.1 and will it keep the database content and all extensions?

And can I keep my configuration.php or will it be overwritten?

Appreciate any help.

Whatever you try to do the first thing you MUST do is create a backup of your web directory and database, so that you can always roll-back to the original starting point.

Have you tried establishing what the 500 error is with your hosts?
What is it that you have tried? To avoid duplication of suggestions.

What is your server environment? Run the Forum Post Assistant to provide the information to help us resolve the issue.

Thanks for replying, yesterday the hoster provided the solution, there was an php error on their server, which caused php-based script not to run.

That's way every thing I tried didn't work, I also gave a try with the FPA, but as you can imagine, this didn't work.

Currently I am, restoring everything and increasing my back-up frequency.

So the topic can be noted as 'resolved' it not always Joomla giving the errors, that is good to know.

In a lot of cases this is is true - far more often than the Joomla! developers get credit for! IMH
