I'm having some trouble with my Joomla install on my webserver. It's resulting in file permissions and errors if I don't chmod the files to 777 or 755 but it seems to be a security risk. I saw this guide on the wiki: http://docs.joomla.org/How_can_you_avoi ... nstalls%3F

but I'm not sure what edit I would have to make to the Apache user.conf file so that I could run it under 644 instead of 755/777 file permissions. Thanks.

Would there be a software recommended in doing the chmods effectively since the wiki says to chmod certain files (php, html, etc) differently. I'm using a mac system.

Is this a Mac server or have you installed MAMP (recommended for localhost) or similar
