Hello, I am new member to this forum. My query is that i paid for a web host about two weeks ago. My first CMS was Wordpress however, i soon had second thoughts about Wordpress and i switched CMS to Joomla.
The problem when i went into fantisco on my web host and installed Joomla my domain name in Joomla was different from the domain name i had in Wordpress.
In fact it's a subdomain name that i have. I have contacted me web host provider in regards to this but they have not even contacted me back. How can i fix this problem? If anyone can give me some advice i would appreciate it!

Mark

Hi welcome to Joomla.
It would seem from what you have described - that you still have Wordpress installed in your web_root directory and Joomla installed in a subdirectory of this.
Is that correct?

Hi Humvee, Thank you for your quick reply. So what you are suggestion is firstly to delete all my Wordpress files thento install Joomla is that correct? Then presumably, i will get my proper domain address.

Yes at the moment Wordpress is the domain. Joomla is the subdomain.

You could use an .htaccess file in the web_root to redirect (mod_rewrite) the URL to the subdirectory instead, or use the interface of your hosts domain control if they have one and this will send the call for the domain name to the subdirectory.

Or you could create another subdirectory, move Wordpress to it so you still have access at least initially, then move Joomla to the Webroot.
You would need to edit the configuration.php of Joomla and the equivalent file in Wordpress to reflect the change of position.
The databases would remain unaffected.

Hi Humvee, I attempted has you suggested to use the htaccess file in the web_root and try to redirect the URL via mod_rewrite.
I did all that unfortunately however, i still get the same outcome it didn't work. I am kind of new to this so i am hoping i did what you said correctly.
I have copy and pasted the text below so you can better understand the situation:

.Install Joomla 1.5 (2/3)

The installation can not be completed:

- You chose to install in the main directory of the domain kam-quest.com, but
there are conflicting filenames, therefore we can not proceed. Following
filenames already exist in the main directory of the domain kam-quest.com
(path="/home/kamqu370/public_html/").You must manually remove these
files before proceeding with auto-installation:

Click on the browser's Back button to fix reported errors.

Is it possible to remove the files manually in file manager in my web host? I know the files are located within the public_html directory but i don't know which files i will need to delete.

I have contacted my web host provider twice within 3 days. I still have received no reply back. I am hoping you good people on the forum can help me!

Please run the Forum Post Assistant to provide the information to help us resolve the issue.

I also noticed the reference to 1.5 why are you installing this (the old LTS version) as the current LTS version is now 2.5.x

Andy
PM also sent

Edit:

Also confused a little ...do you want to keep the content of the Wordpress Installation or are you not bothered about it?
