What am I missing with 2.5 installation?

Post by Mattresses » Mon May 14, 2012 3:29 am

I have a Joomla 1.5.26 site running and I wanted to migrate it to 2.5 using SP Upgrade (after having numerous issues with jUpgrade)

To do this I planned to install a clean 2.5 on a subdirectory mysite/upgrade25

I was planning to use the same database with a j25 prefix (like jupgrade did)

I extracted the installation files in the subdirectory and when I navigate to http://www.mysite.com/upgrade25 I get a 404 error. I thought it was supposed to give me an installation screen.

What could I be missing?

Thank you for any help

do you need to add the "index.php" ? Did you by mistake rename "configuration.php-dist" to configuration.php or copy the one from your old site?

I checked your suggestions and there was an index.php file and I had only unzipped the files without changing anything.

But then I noticed that I had named the new directory Upgrade25 (with a capital) and all the other directories had a small first letter so I changed it to upgrade25 (small letter) and presto ... it worked.

I had no idea that could make a difference and so I changed it back again just to make sure it wasn't something else and sure enough ... the 404 error came back. I also noticed that if I typed the URL with a capital that it worked.

So I learned today that the URL's are case sensitive. I probably should have known that ... but I didn't.

Thanks for your reply which made me look more closely :)

It is the directory that you have added it to that is case sensitive particularly on Unix based servers (Windows does not care).
URLs are not case sensitive in themselves, only when you add a subdirectory or file name to them in order to find a particular path.

Linux/Unix Folder names are cAsE sensitive. so yes, it is important to get it right....

Well done, good luck with your installation and site....
