Restore backup to new host

Post by adoprecon12 » Wed May 16, 2012 6:59 pm

Using Akeeba Backup Installer. First screen has Safe Mode setting as Yes and the Recommended Setting is No. How do I change this setting? I can't move on from the 2nd screen. I get the error message "Could not connect to database. Please check your connection parameters." I am using the exact info given to me by my new hosts. Are you able to assist me to restore my website?
Thanks.

You get this error message probably because the database has not been created beforehand on your server. (See below)

Safe mode = Yes on the first page: I think you can ignore this setting.

On the second page:

The connection to the database (especially the database name) is the most critical step of restoration. Any error in the information you give will result in the error message you receive. You have to give the following information:

A) The database server: this is usually localhost

B) The user name. This is the username for the selected database (see D below).

C) Your Password

D) The database name. NOTE: The database and the database user name have to exist already. Kickstart cannot create a new database on your server. If it does not exist, go to phpmyadmin or the MySQL Database creation icon in cPanel and create a new database and a new user name. You can choose whatever name you want.
