What Permission Settings for "Writable"?

Post by Chanty12 » Fri May 18, 2012 4:24 pm

I went to System Information > Permission Settings in the Joomla Control Panel.

None of the Files and Directories in the list are writable.

What do I chmod them too?

Thakns.

774 on a file will:
- give the owner and group permissions to read, write, and execute the file
- give everyone else only the ability to read it, but not write or execute the file.

Review of the document http://docs.joomla.org/What_are_the_rec ... issions%3F would be of help.

Thanks @imanickam ... but that is what they are set at -- 755 for dirs and 644 for files. Yet System Information > Permission Settings indicates they are "unwritable". So they need to be higher than what Joomla docs tells me.

755 is the correct setting for your dirs. Check with your host to find out why they are showing as unwritable by joomla. it's possible that the way joomla runs on the server it DOES NOT have write permission. You host can help with that.

it had to do with the install process and turning on the FTP Layer. I found that needle through goggling all day yesterday and reinstalling 3 separate times to finally get it right
