I have migrated a number of Joomla sites in the past without problem. So I don't know what the issue here is

This is the current site

http://79.170.40.161/lawandorderfoundation.com/index.php

This is the migrated site

http://alpha.creativezones.com/~lawandor/

I have turned full error reporting on for the migrated site. Most of the extensions don't work correctly.

When Joomla was installed on the new server the Native zip support was turned off, that is now on.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Cheers

SEO does not work on ip/~. Mod_rewrite only works on real domain and not on ip/~user. Switch off SEO and disable URL-rewrite and you are good to go

Thanks for the rapid response.

The solution sounded so good.

I changed the .htaccess as suggested. Then when to Global Configuration to turn off SEF "can't write to configuration.php".

I made the change manually to the configuration file (current permissions set at 644) and the site wouldn't load images, css etc.

On installation the configuration file couldn't be written either so had to create it manually using the code supplied.

Please run the Forum post Assistant to provide the information to help us try and resolve the issue.

If the configuration.php is already at 644 and you cannot write to it then it sounds like ownership issues because of the way the server is set up. The above information will help confirm that.

Hi Humvee

After some discussion it did turn out exactly as you said. The issue was with the server set up and somewhat outside my control.

The matter has now been resolved, well except for one strange thing. I still have problems overwriting the index.html files, of which there are many. Not a real problem just strange as no other files appear to be effected.

Thanks for all the help.

You are welcome ;)

You can change the priority order of how a browser interacts with index.php or index.html by adding a single line to your .htaccess file
Code:
########## Begin - File execution order
DirectoryIndex index.php index.html
########## End - File execution order
