Joomla Backend Extentions Installed with no owner

Hello,

I am having an issue where every time i install a module, component, template and everything via joomlas installer in the back end it puts them into my directory with no owner, so when they are used they dont actually save anything. so if i update most the stuff because it has no owner in the FTP side of things, they dont actually save.

I have the latest version of Joomla

Enable FTP \"no\"
FTP Host 127.0.0.1
FTP Port 21
FTP Username Correct
FTP password correct
FTP Root Blank

If theres any changes that need to be made i will gladly do so.

I Have however tried clicking Enable FTP - Yes, but when i click save it automatically reverts back to No

And my configuration file is set to 777 so its fully editable.

SOLUTION

I reset part of the config file to the following.
public $ftp_host = '127.0.0.1';
public $ftp_port = '21';
public $ftp_user = '';
public $ftp_pass = '';
public $ftp_root = '';
public $ftp_enable = '0';
I then made the config file permission 777 as when set to any other permission it stated that it couldn't write to it (Via Backend).
I then went to upload an extension that then failed as it stated "Warning: unable to move file".
I then went to the config file Via FTP and changed enable FTP to 1.
I Then uploaded the extension again without issues.
Also the new uploads do not install as 99/99 anymore.

Manually edit the FTP settings within the configuration.php file itself.

Change the file permissions for directories to 755, and files to 644 throughout. Your current settings are wholly insecure.

Is this shared hosting, A VPS server or a dedicated server?

Ok all that has been done, will this solve the uploading without ownership problems ? below is an updated report.

Ok all that has been done, will this solve the uploading without ownership problems ? below is an updated report.

Well we won't know that until you try it If this is the cause of the issue then yes, but if as you say they are uploading without an owner at all this is not the normal response when Apache or similar ownership issues occur. There could be further underlying issues at play that you will need to involve the hosting company in.
File permissions are still incorrect.

config file should 644 not 755
sub directories still showing as 777

Config file has been set to 644, and i am unable to change them directories that are set as 777 to 755 as of yet because there permissions are set to 99/99 so i cant change them, i have contacted my Hosting provider to ask if they can do a sweep of all files and folders within the directories and change there owner permissions. I will let you know of any updates.

Ok edit the configuration.php and set these back to default settings.

Are you able to work with the core components ok?
Are you absolutely certain that the Extensions being tried are 2.5 compatible. (Grasping at straws now)
Do the components that you are having issue with have their own configuration files that need editing?
Have you just tried the automatic installation of extensions? What about manual or install from directory? Does this make a difference?

All extensions are 2.5 (I always make sure of this) Also it seems to do this with EVERYTHING i install so i cant be an extension problem.

MOST components work within the back end, even if they dont have the correct ownership.

Well I did say I was clutching at straws now - so now I suggest you take the issue to specialist AMP server forums (or sit here and hope someone else has something) or as it is clearly a server configuration issue you take it to the hosts to sort out.

that's why I said to reset config so that we were back as before - I was just eliminating a possible issue/solution assuming you entered the correct FTP credentials for your account

This is more than weird but i seem to have solved the problems.

This is what I did.

I reset part of the config file to the following.

public $ftp_enable = '0';
I then made the config file permission 777 as when set to any other permission it stated that it couldn't write to it (Via Backend).
I then went to upload an extension that then failed as it stated "Warning: unable to move file".
I then went to the config file Via FTP and changed enable FTP to 1.
I Then uploaded the extension again without issues.
Also the new uploads do not install as 99/99 anymore.

So i have no clue what happened but whatever i did worked...

When you actually enable the FTP settings are you actually entering any details for the user, password, or anything else for that matter or JUST enabling it?

777 for the configuration.php file is extremely insecure. the file must be set at worst at 644, and at best once all configuration work is completed to 444 What you are currently doing is letting anyone read, write and execute your configuration file, so therefore it would work!
