Hi, I was just wondering if I can link my joomla web files with a new database. I've accidently deleted my original database and I'm just wondering if I setup a new database would I be able to link it with my web files and setup all the sections/categories etc. again?

  • If you have deleted the database of the original site you will have lost all your categories/content/menu items/ links and well all Content of the site.
  • Therefore unless you have backup for the database that you could install, you are better off reinstalling Joomla followed by reinstalling any new templates/Extensions that you want to use.
  • Note: Your images and other media will still be safe within the Joomla file structure and you will not have lost these. So when you come to delete the file system before the reinstallation you should not delete this and/or make sure you have a back up of them in a separate location (just to save on time uploading them all again.)
  • In your question your refer to Sections and Categories so it is possible you are still using Joomla 1.5 - you might want to make the most of this opportunity and switch to the current LTS version 2.5 of Joomla!
