Hi
I backed up my Joomla 2.5 website using Akeeba. I dowloaded the *.JPA file. I would like to know how to restore it. I am using Wampsever.

Re: Restore Akeeba file with Wampserver
Just as you would on the web.
Move the downloaded archive into a folder called mysite backup...for instance, inside the www folder in WAMP. Add kickstart.php to the folder and in your browser hit localhost/mysite backup/kickstart.php and follow the process through.
Remember to make a blank database for the site via phpMyadmin first. With WAMP the database user is Root with no password.
Edit
Having reread your post and realised that I may have misunderstood...
To restore the site move the archive to the root of the site files in the mysite folder in www in WAMP. Add kickstart.php and hit the URL localhost/mysite/kickstart.php and sit back and watch. Select overwrite the files when the database is restoring.

Hi
I added Kickstart and I sat back and watched. It showed that the restoration process was successful but when I opened localhost in Wampserver it showed an error message 500.

Re: Restore Akeeba file with Wampserver
Where in WampServer are you trying to install the site?
Make sure this is in www/new_site/ directory and not simply www/ directory.
Use your text editor to open the configuration.php file and make sure all the settings are correct for your localhost server and database.
Make sure all reference to the original remote site URL/Domain are changed.
Remember the database password and username will be different :
• The MySQL database user = root;
• The MySQL database user password = ;
• The MySQL database host = localhost;
• The MySQL database type = mysqli
If you have an .htaccess file check the RewriteBase now indicates /new_site/
Alternatively, temporarily rename .htaccess to htaccess.old.
Change SEF rewrite to 0 in the configuration.php file.

Hi
I am pleased to announce that I finally got the site to restore. It was something really simple: I checked the rewite_model in apache models in Wampseriver and and viola! the site was up and running. Thanks for all your valuable inputs. I really learnt a lot.
