Hello,

I hope you can help me.
I am using Joomla 2.5.6 on a apache server with php 5.4.4. Unfortunately, the site went blank after upgrading joomla to 2.5.6. I can see the following entry in the error log:
Quote:
PHP Fatal error: Method name must be a string in /path/to/joomla/libraries/joomla/application/component/controller.php on line 760

I'd appreciate any help as I am stuck with this problem.

I went ahead, downloaded a clean 2.5.6 zip, uploaded it to an ftp server and tried installing. It died with the same error message. I am shocked that version 2.5.6 does NOT work with php 5.4.4. Upgrading php to 5.4.4 is recommended due to many bugs in the previous release. Do you know if joomla team is preparing a fix and when it might be available?

Thank you!

PHP5.4.4 does not yet resolve all the issues and you should step back to PHP5.3.x

Thank you but this is something I cannot understand. Upgrading php to 5.4.4 will render your site dead and there is no warning on the download page to be careful about it. I am in a deep trouble since the decision to go for php 5.4.4 is beyond me I am forced to redo the website in Joomla 1.5 or go for Wordpress to avoid such nasty surprises. What a mess!

The error is not Joomla's it is PHP so don't shoot the messenger - this is only a recent discovery as few people had been using PHP5.4.x. in production or testing.
Joomla developers are aware of it now and are looking at ways to deal with it, without making the situation worse.

Hi

I'm using Joomla 2.5.6 with PHP 5.4.5, Apache 2.4.2 and MySQL 5.5.25a on production site... no problem at all... (fresh install)

I think it's not Joomla or PHP's problem.. but your server's setting or any components or plugin problem...
