I can easily install the full Rocket Launcher with template and plugins into the root of my website (ie. http://www.mysite.com). However, if I try to install Rocket Launcher into a sub folder (ie. http://www.mysite.com/testfolder/) joomla will install just fine, but no rockettheme template or plugins are installed. All the files for the template and plugins are in the proper folders, but are not showing up on the back end. What am I doing wrong? I tried modifying the robots.txt, but i'm sure there is more that I have to do. please help me out.

Simply as I had now got to it I will give you an answer.
Rocket Launcher is not a Joomla product I would suggest you go to the Rocket Web site for information and read the instructions that are written for their product.

Well then, allow me to rephrase my question. How would I manually install templates or plugins that do not have an xml file?

If I copy all the correct files into the correct locations, how would I get the joomla back end to recognize the template and/or the plugins?

I appreciate your help. I have been all over the RT website and found nothing. Further help from them would cost me $50/mo.

Well I'll try and answer the question for half that donated to Joomla!
Have you tried using the Extensions=>Extension Manager -> Discover tab and clicking the Discover button?
Then
  1. Make sure the database has been updated to reflect the changes from the update(s)
    1. Go to the Extensions=>Extension Manager->Database tab
    2. CLICK the Fix button (top right toolbar).
  2. Also , make sure that you clear the Joomla cache files.
    1. Go to Extensions=>Extension Manager->Updates tab
    2. CLICK Purge Cache
  3. Report back with the outcome.

Also how are you transferring the files to your, I assume, remote server?
FTP I assume - is this set to binary transfer type? To avoid corruption of the files.
Do you not have separate template / extensions archives for the items you are trying to install?

Thank you for your help,
I have used the discover button, following your instructions. All of the items install successfully except for the 3 library items, and most importantly, the template itself. The library files error says there is no xml install file, and the template install goes to a white page stating an error on line 534.

Within the template manager, after "discover" The template itself shows up now under the 'Templates" tab, but it does not show up under the 'Styles' tab, making it just a big tease.

I am using a remote server. I usually transfer my files using the FILE MANAGER within CPANEL. They have a handy little upload button. I upload in ZIP format to the remote server, and extract right on the server.

  1. BACKUP your site and database - if you have not already (which you should already have done!).
    Assuming you are using the Joomla 2.5.6 version on your site:
  2. Download a fresh copy of the Joomla Full Stable Package for 2.5.6
  3. Open this archive locally.
    • If on Windows do not use M$ own archive manager - download and install 7-Zip.
  4. Locate the /libraries directory at the top level of the package.
  5. Using an FTP client:
    • Again if you are on Windows do not use M$ own software - download and install either WinSCP or FileZilla.
    • Ensure the Default Transfer File Type is set to Binary.
    1. Select and Upload the /libraries/ directory & files to the host joomla_root/ directory (where the /libraries directory is already located).
    2. Overwrite the files that are already there YOU MUST KEEP THE SAME FILE HIERARCHY
  6. Once you have access to the Admin Back-end of Joomla:
    1. OPEN the Extensions=>Extension Manager->Database tab.
    2. CLICK the Fix button.
  7. Make sure that you clear the Joomla cache files.
      THEN
    1. Go to Extensions=>Extension Manager->Updates tab
    2. CLICK Purge Cache
  8. If all has gone as intended then you should now be able to upload the files you wanted without the Library error occurring. Please let us know.

going throught the steps of your last post gave me some other ideas to try, and I ended up fixing both of my issues.

First, when installing a joomla package with a template and plugins already built in, I had to install the sample data, (yeah, I know, duh). Apparently the template, plugins, and all the juicy extras are stored in the sample data, not just the annoying sample articles. Without the sample data, its just like a regular flat joomla installation.

Second, I was unaware that the xml file to install templates is located in the templates folder itself. So after unzipping, the "launcher" package, I went to the templates folder and zipped the contents of the specific template i needed. This zip now installs just like a normal template. This same trick works with some plugins, but not all.

The other plugins worked out with a combination of the discover tab, uploading a new libraries folder, fixing the database, and purging the cache. yes, I have backed up the site.

So the moral of the story here is install the sample data with a pre-built launcher. It's also nice to know I can make my own template install files from within the pre-built launcher. Thank you for your assistence.

Thank you for posting back with your solutions. However from memory, much of the installation of Rocket Launcher is detailed in the documentation previously referenced.
Marking as resolved.
