Hi all, right now my Joomla site is on my local host installed with xampp. Does anyone have a good link to instructions of how to get my site to a remote server? Thanks.

Hi,
It is better that you install Akeeba backup to backup your website and then upload the .jpa file to the remote server directory typically public_html and then use their kickstarter program to install your website with as few hassles as possible. You will need to create a database in your remote host as well. I think it will be better that you follow the Akeeba documentation it is excellent and you will of course find numerous videos in youtube and not to mention the Joomla Documentation page.

There are a number of books out there if you are in need of some Joomla tutorials then go ahead and read those before you start to run your Joomla website online.

Regards!

Thanks for the reply. I took a look at Akeeba backup and Kickstart. Looks like i make a backup, upload it to the server, and run kickstart. Do i need to modify any file paths in Joomla? I have seen paths in the configuration that looks like C:\xampp\htdocs etc because its on my local machine. I am guessing i need to go through the joomla configuration and change all the paths? Thanks.

You will be prompted to enter all the necessary details while installing it in remote host, those will be nothing different than the ones you filled in during local host installation. You won't have to do anything manually. Again please go through the documentation step by step the first time around, it may seem like a heavy duty job but really is not, but you need to go through what is prescribed by Akeeba as it is and everything should be fine.

Regards!

You'll want to create the database first on the new server. Make note of the DB name, DB user, and DB password. Enter those when asked in the setup. Make sure you grant the new user all privileges. Also, if you have hard coded urls they will have to be fixed on the new server.

Well you could always read the instructions...

Read the extensive documentation on-line at Akeeba Backup or download a copy of the same;
