Dear Mr. Humvee,
I have tried to install joomla-2.5.4 on CentOS5.
I am facing the same problem as above.
The LAMP version as below:
- Linux(CentOS: CentOS-5.8 final release.
- Apache(httpd): httpd-2.2.3-65.el5.centos
- Mysql: mysql-server-5.0.95-1.el5_7.1
- PHP: PHP 5.2.5 (cli).
Could you please guide me how to solve it?

You have probably not configured the server properly. Please run the Forum Post Assistant to provide the information to help us try and resolve the issue.
Please follow the instructions in the post and the program pack closely.
Why are you using J 2.5.4 ? It is out of date. Use 2.5.6.

I'm not sure exactly what's going on, but the permissions on all of your folders are 777, which is not how Joomla should be set up. This is extremely risky. I would re-upload and replace the Joomla core files using FTP.

I rest with my earlier statement that the server is not properly configured it would appear.
Missing modules and extensions or same are incorrectly configured: mod_security | mod_evasive | mod_dosevasive | mod_qos | mod_userdir | mcrypt | suhosin |
As well as the potential file ownership issues because of the use of Apache2Handler.
The reinstalled site at least has the correct file permissions now.
You should look more closely at the proper configuration of the server for the purposes you intend using it and make sure it is correct before trying to install Joomla.

Hi there,

I provide a solution proposal to this problem based on my insights.

I suffered the same problem not being able to pass "Step 1 - Language selection".
After reading some forum posts I've been thinking about the "cache problem".
The installation process seems to work running on the same page "index.php" (URL address).
Working with HTTP and the same URL address for several steps, the browser cache indeed might affect.
I do not fully comprehend which is the error cause.
The page action is type "POST" (no cache should apply).
I've seen Google Chrome (21.0) fails, but Firefox (13.0) works OK.

My solution is very easy: switch URL address to "HTTPS".
This solves the problem for Google Chrome (21.0).
No cache should apply for HTTPS.

I hope this helps other users with the same problem.
I still do not have an explanation about why it fails on HTTP with Google Chrome.

Note added: I edit this post to inform you about the "solution". I noticed my problem is linked to the use of a reverse proxy: nginx->apache-httpd->joomla. Indeed with server configuration tunning this can be solved. Nonetheless it would be interesting for the admin to perform the initial installation using HTTPS. Thanks for your support.

@jordifs This certainly not a Joomla issue that is causing the problem, but it is a server configuration issue. The hosts are the ones that need to rectify the issue.

@Quoc Viet I would also point out the PHP Configuration :: Version: 5.2.5 this is only just inside the boundary of the minimum requirements for Joomla and this is indeed a very old version of PHP. The hosts clearly have not bothered to update the server over a long period of time and it may be that your best option is to find a better host.
