Changing Website Domain on goDaddy

Post by aljoiner92 » Wed Sep 17, 2014 12:20 am

Hello,

I am trying to change my domain on my website to our regular domain now that our new site is finished. I have done everything goDaddy has told me to do but am still having problems. At first when everything was changed over the site would load the homepage HTML but not the CSS and the links were broken. After I changed the site name to my new domain the CSS loaded but links were still broken.

This forum post was dated so I didn't post here but had a similar problem http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=430&t=425676

I read through everything there and tried the suggestions but nothing worked for me.

My Site: http://iluvlocalplaces.com/

The database for the my Joomla site is under iluvlocalplaces.net/Joomla-illp, because that is our hosting server, which I am assuming is the problem.

Thank you,
Amber

My Joomla site is on a hosting domain here: http://iluvlocalplaces.net/Joomla-illp/

I am wanting the domain to be iluvlocalplaces.com. I use goDaddy for hosting.

When I try to change it the menu links and all links on the site break. I noticed if I got rid of SEF urls then the pages came up correctly, but I want SEF urls to work.

Right now I just have it redirecting, but that is not what I am wanting.

Hi Amber, you need to follow this to update the configuration.php file so the site works in the root of the domain.

Depending on the setup you would need to move the whole site (all files) into the root of the domain and update the configuration file to reflect that change.

Backup the site and database first in case you need it.

I assume you are using a subfolder for the site you are building.

If you are on a Cpanel and this is an addon domain not the primary domain for the account the files would go in the domain root not the root of the public_html.
