MY question may have something to do with the installation steps,
I think I installed everything right, but is there a step that makes
the inside links work correctly,,, something to do with installation? Like all of the inside links
ALL go to an error page?
My web site is www.webdesignerkaren.com
I've got 5 books about Joomla so I am searching them out for this
answer......

I installed Joomla from my cpanel from Fantastico item. It was 1.6
but I found an upgrade for 2.5 and tried upgrading it....... should I
delete it all and start over?

thanks,

Karen

Reviewed the site and I could observe the following:

(a) The menu items Price List, Domain Names & Web Hosting, and Portfolio, seem to be of the menu item type Alias of the menu item Home.

Make these menu items of the type Single Article and choose the appropriate article for them.

(b) The internal links Portfolio and Price List points to the URLS http://www.webdesignerkaren.com/portfolio.html and http://www.webdesignerkaren.com/pricelist.html respectively. These URLs do not exist. The URLs you use should point to menu items. In this case they are not.

You are using the option Search Engine Friendly URLs without the option Use URL rewriting. So, the menu items would have the text string index.php/ with the URL. You would notice this in the menu item Site Map. The URL of the menu item Site Map is http://www.webdesignerkaren.com/index.php/site-map.html.

So, first fix what was discussed in the point (a).

After that, you could change the links of the menu items in the articles.

Note: Since you are starting new, suggest using Joomla! 2.5.2.

I'm going to work on this right now, thank you for the help.
I have a question, why is there a little picture of a lock by some
of the Articles?....here's a screen shot of it.
http://www.webdesignerkaren.com/jmla1a.jpg
And also, can I delete a bunch of files of Joomla that don't
look very important, like on that screenshot, the Breadcrumbs module
and others as well? I've deleted templates already. And I don't get
the full editing tool where I enter text, like the tool bar where the
Links, Image, Bold, or any of that, just a textara type of box to enter
html. There's no WYSIWYG editor, but it's since I've deleted stuff that
it has disappeared, should I upload Joomla again?

I bought 3 Joomla! books and am reading through them all...

Thanks so much,
Karen

Those are the articles you seem to have opened for editing them. These locks are known as Check-out locks that prevents multiple persons editing the articles at the same time. If you open these articles and close them these locks would go away.

Strongly suggest not to remove any files from the Joomla! installation. In due course, this would create be detrimental to your site/development.

Should not have deleted the templates. Sometimes these templates are helpful in isolating problems with other templates you use.

It is hard to predict what would have happened as you seem to have deleted files. If you have not moved further, suggest installing Joomla! 2.5.2. Before doing this, make sure to delete the files (along with sub-directories) of the existing Joomla! 1.6 installation.

Note: Please bear in mind that this is not a chat session. Suggest creating new topic for each of the issue you are having.

Will do, just one more question though, I remember when I first installed Joomla that there
were also some Sample templates that I think they gave me a choice whethere to install those
or not, if that happens again should I include those or just skip it? I'm going to
install the Joomla 2.5.2 and delete the old Joomla now.

I do not know how your host has configured Fantastico. If there is a question about installing additional templates (that are not the default templates that come with Joomla!), I would choose not to install them.
