Installation of Joomla 2.5 on Windows 2008 R2 issue(s)

Good Day to all.
Let me start by saying that I am a complete newbie when it comes to Joomla. A colleague of mine is going to be re-doing our company intranet site and he is familiar with creating sites with Joomla, just not the installation of it in a Windows environment.

I have a Windows 2008 R2 with all of Windows updates upon the box.
I then followed the following article

http://docs.joomla.org/Installing_on_Microsoft

Some of the items have changed since I was installing 2.5

When I searched for Joomla in the search area in the upper right search bar, I was presented with Joomla 2.5. I then installed everything that it had asked for.

I was able to finish the installation up to checking the default site.
I tried to use the localhost/myjoomla and that gave me the Webpage cannot be found.
Upon reviewing my installation, I changed it to http://localhost/joomla_25
Again I get a 404 Not Found.

Please forgive my newbieness, I just cannot seem to locate any resources upon the internet to help with this.

Thank you for your time and effort.

Jon

Please provide full details of IIS, MySQL (MS SQL) PHP environment you are installing to.

Have you ever had Apache running on the Windows server.

Try using the Forum Post Assistant (see the top of this page) to provide a complete check of your environment.

Were there any warnings on the Pre-installation page? Or are you saying you do not even get the Joomla! installation process starting?

Thank you Humvee

I used the install provided by the download at the link that I had provided.
When I searched the install for Joomla 2.5, it proceeded to download and install the items that it had thought were needed.

Please provide full details of IIS, MySQL (MS SQL) PHP environment you are installing to.
I may have failed in capturing all of the information on the install, however I feel that the installation will need to be uninstalled and reinstalled to provide the full details of what was installed.

Have you ever had Apache running on the Windows server.
No, this is a clean install of Windows 2008 R2 with all windows updates.

Try using the Forum Post Assistant (see the top of this page) to provide a complete check of your environment.

Joomla 2.5 installed without any errors.
It is when I try to access the localhost/joomla_25 I receive a 404

Thanks for your assistance
Jon

By installed - i do mean that you entered localhost/joomla_25 and you are presented with the 7 step installation process. Did you complete this?

EDIT:
The download of Joomla! 2.5.4 is a single zip file which you unpack to the IIS web root / subdirectory(joomla_25).

You then call localhost/joomla_25 and start the process the first step being the language choice, Step 2 is the Pre-installation Screen, Step 3 the Licence, Step 4 the database, Step 5 The FTP layer, Step 6 the Site configuration, Step 7 the Finish with links to the home page or administrator and the instruction to delete the Installation directory

Humvee,
Thank your for taking the time and effort to assist with my installation.
If you look at this link http://docs.joomla.org/Installing_on_Microsoft
That is what I have followed.
I think that we may be talking about two different ways of installation.

I download the installation from Microsoft using their Web Platform Installer
