Moving /joomla to root folder
I was moving all of my Joomla folders (inside /joomla) to the root folder using FTP (Filezilla)
(I was following this guide http://docs.joomla.org/Moving_the_site_ ... irectories ) I have Joomla version 2.5
I had an error in which the components and the template folders did not successfully move to the root folder.
This was the error I got in the FTP status:
Response: 350 File exists, ready for destination name
Command: RNTO /httpdocs/templates
Response: 550 /httpdocs/templates: Access is denied.
I've installed Joomla via Parallel Plesk and installed it in the /joomla folder.
Also on top of that the other sub folders in the template folder had disappeared except for the template I had made for my site. But the css files and other files directly inside the folder had
disappeared.
When I was editing the configuration.php and and then transfered it, it failed to transfer and it says on the FTP status was.
Command: STOR configuration.php
Response: 550 configuration.php: Access is denied.
Error: Critical file transfer error
On my http://mysite.com/index.php the error is saying...
jos-Error: Component not found
JSite -> dispatch() @ C:\Inetpub\vhosts\mysite.com\httpdocs\index.php:47
JComponentHelper :: renderComponent() @ C:\Inetpub\vhosts\mysite.com\httpdocs\includes\application.php:197
JError :: raiseError() @ C:\Inetpub\myhosts\mysite.com\httpdocs\libraries\joomla\application\component\helper.php:337
JError :: raise() @ C:\Inetpub\myhosts\mysite.com\httpdocs\libraries\joomla\error\error.php:251
If anyone can help me with this situation I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: Moving /joomla to root folder
[Mod note: Moved from General Forum to Installation Forum; Please read Which forum to post your question].
Is this on a local installation of Windows IIS server or a remote host?
Is the server using IIS7 or greater as required by the technical requirements of Joomla?
It would clearly seem that the files have become corrupted during the movement and you should probably begin again.
Make sure that FileZilla file transfer type in the preferences is set to Binary.
Double check that the FTP username and password is authorised for the directory to which you are moving the files.

Re: Moving /joomla to root folder
Thanks for replying
My site is hosted on a remote host using Windows server. I have already asked some assistance to my hosting but the technical support is non existent and I haven't gotten any replies.
How exactly do I begin again? By reinstalling Joomla? I haven't made a back up of all my files prior to moving them to the root folder unfortunately.
I've already set the Transfer type to Binary but still the same error.
I'm planning to just reinstall Joomla on my site if I ever find a way to save the articles, categories, menus I've made.

Article, menu, category back up?
Is there any way I could save all the articles, menus, categories I've already made?
I'm reinstalling Joomla 2.5 on my site and I'd like to save the countless hours that I've put into uploading all the articles and making categories/menus. I'd like to upload all of them to the new Joomla database quickly and easily. Something that could be able to include the article/category/menu configurations I've made and the plugins I've installed.

Why are you reinstalling Joomla?
Are you using Akeeba Backup to backup your site?
Use the Akeeba backup file and kikckstart to move the Joomla Installation.

Re: Moving /joomla to root folder
You don't have to reinstall.
Get the Joomla 2.5.7 full package.
Unzip to your computer.
Delete installation folder.
Upload with ftp and overwrite your site.
You also have to upload the files in your custom template.

Re: Article, menu, category back up?
I was transferring my Joomla files to another folder via ftp and files got corrupted plus I forgot to save a back up beforehand. I can't seem to work around the error so I decided to do a reinstall.
I just downloaded Akeeba but can it work with a new Joomla installation? I really just want to save all of the the categories, menus and articles that I've made not move the whole Joomla installation.

Have you seen my response in your other topic?
Use the full Joomla package and upload to the site. That will take care of corrupted files.

Re: Moving /joomla to root folder
And so you have (hopefully) learnt, albeit the hard way, the most important lesson of site management and maintenance ALWAYS DO BACKUPS!!1belle wrote:How exactly do I begin again? By reinstalling Joomla? I haven't made a back up of all my files prior to moving them to the root folder unfortunately.
Remember it is in your best interest to take a backup of your site:
- Before running the Update for any release of Joomla
- Before updating any existing Extensions
- Before installing any new Extensions.
- Before moving from subfolder/ to root/ or localhost/.
- Before editing the core files of Joomla for any reason
- NOTE:this is not recommended!
- Except on the rare occasion when an official approved patch is released prior to a full update being available .
- On a regular basis for your site to protect new content that is added:
- Frequency for the backups varies depending on your site, it's traffic, and changes to the content:
- it may be every hour
- it may be 2/3 times a day or more
- it may be once a day
- it may be once a week
- it may be once a month
- Essentially, any time where if there is a chance for things to go wrong, you always have a backup to fall back to!

Re: Moving /joomla to root folder
Hi,
i had my website installed in mysite.com/joomla and i wanted to move it to the web root. Thus, i moved all the files from the /joomla folder to the /httpdocs folder and i removed the reference to the /joomla sub folder from the $log_path and the $tmp_path code. When i try to go to mysite.com i get this error:
Error displaying the error page: JERROR_COULD_NOT_FIND_TEMPLATE: JERROR_COULD_NOT_FIND_TEMPLATE
I cannot go to my backend either.
any ideas ?
thanks in advance!
