Unable to load images using Media Manager

Problem
I have multiple sites on my IIS server which all work fine except for one particular site where the Media Manager reports that an image has been loaded but it is not there.

Set Up
I am using Joomla 2.5.6 and PHP 5.3.10

Other Notes
I am assuming this is a permissions issue but despite following several leads from the forum cannot identify the issue.

This site is actually supposed to be a copy of another site on the same server so I do have a reference point for comparisons but so far I have not been able to find any differences.

Please always upgrade to the latest Joomla version within the same series first before trying to solve errors with an older version. Possible bugs might have been solved in the meantime, and it's a waste of time trying to solve issues that are caused because of non-updated software...

Hi, Thanks for the advice and I do try and keep pretty much up to date but with about a dozen sites to look after it is not practical to keep updating each small point release.

However, in the instance of my particular issue it's not the software that is at issue since all my other sites use 2.5.x and do not show the same problem. I think it's more down to the permissions set-up but the actual permission settings on root and images match up with the similar site so is there perhaps some other folders I need to consider ?

Additional Information

Following further investigations, I find that if I use System Information, Directory Permissions option in Joomla administration all pages including configuration.php and the images folder are marked as unreadable. In other sites these are readable.

I assume that this is a pointer to my problem but I have checked permissions in IIS and these should be readable. Any suggestions as to what the missing link is that makes IIS think the files are unreadable ?
