Can someone who is having this issue reach me on skype tomorrow. I would like to see this issue live.

garyjaybrooks2000

I have resources to be able to fix core Joomla issues and try to push a patch out.

yup, happens with me too. has happened numerous times with 1.7 and 2.5.

i'm currently using 2.5.3, most recently happened when i installed a youtube player module and positioned it inside an article, afterwards my whole menu was completed messed up, spent ages re-ordering everything. :(

hope it gets sorted for the next release ;)

.
There does not appear to be an item for this issue in the bug tracker.
http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker/?action=TrackerItemBrowse&tracker_id=8103

So it would be helpful if some of you would post the issue there.

example 1: create a new menu = messed up main menu

example 2: copy items over from one menu to another menu = messed up main menu

example 3: re-order a menu's items = messed up main menu

example 4: try and enter numbers in the main menu to manually order them and then click on the 'save order - floppy disc picture icon at the top' = messed up main menu (although, to be clear, that 'ordering and save' option in the main menu has "never" worked on any joomla version i've used since 1.5 lol

Today i checked my website url and the title of this topic lived upto it's name. without even logging in, or changing anything, over the past 24 hours, the main menu completely re-ordered itself, i had to laugh, but at the same time was incredibly peed off, as yet again, I had to re-order it. This is a bug which is seriously bugging me now. I passionately love joomla, but there's only so long i can deal with a bug that's not been addressed for a looooong time

But .... it could have been something you did(or didn't do but should of) that caused it while you were logged in. The fact that you didn't notice it until the next time you logged in(be it 24 hours or 24 seconds) does not mean it happened after you logged off.

If it did happen after you logged off and before you loged in again then the Pixies sprinkled magic fairy dust on it. And it became a breathing living being capapble of making it's own decisions

A few possibilities
  • The Hosting company did a roll back on their server for some reason.
  • Someone knows your login (or you left your PC unattended) and played a practical joke.
  • Youve been hacked
  • You made a mistake like reordering the menus and not clicking the save icon.

What is your url ?

the host hasnt done a roll back, and I havent been hacked, but thanks. and as i said, the save icon just doesnt work, well it vaguely works for some menu', but using it for the main menu either doesnt work at all, or just completely cocks up the order

but actually (before you jump on me) it was actually me who made the mistake, but the team still have to fix it ;) I completely forgot that I installed a component this morning before taking the ol morning shower. But forgive me, as I was still a little groggy before writing, so please add to my list of 4 examples in how the bug is created, 'installing a component'. the component was 'maian media' if we are being exact here ^^

Perhaps the bug is not with Joomla but with some javascript in the extension ?

Have you also tried using a standard Template in the front end ? Badly written custom Templates can cause problems in admin.

Also please install a fresh Joomla 2.5.4
Test see if the problem exists
***** If not
******** Then install the component
***** If it does
******** Then try different Browsers and try on different PC's. And try on localhost if it happens to a fresh install on a remote Host.

Well, it's not just happened with this extension. I've only just installed this, and see the other 4 examples of how the menu keeps changing, which has been happening for many joomla versions. I've done the fresh install thing many times to test it, aswell as local host/checking on all browsers

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. But...... you have got me thinking though, because I have, for at least half my time spent using Joomla, been using Yootheme templates.

I'd like to know if any of the other guys experiencing the main menu changing bug (if it is a bug), are also using Yootheme? If everyone who experiences this menu problem is using a very different template, then I guess it might be a problem with the core insides of Joomla.

Then you would be guessing wrong. There are many Templates that use their own 'Framework' so other Templates other than yoothemes can effect Joomla in a similar way. It may be a commonly used Technique (that is employed by many 3rd party Template creators) that is causing the problem.

If it does not happen to a Joomla when no 3rd party Templates/Extensions installed then it is not a Joomla bug.

So this error happens after setting multilingual sites ?

Is this a common factor for everyone who is reporting having this issue ?

I don't know if it a common error after setting multilingual. I search on the multilingual forum and didn't find this issue.

I haven't made changes in my site lately and it was working fine. So, I update the site to 2.5.4 and set up the multilingual when this issue began. I can't see any other reason.

As a read in this post someone ( above my post) has the same issue with 2.5.4 I thought it could be an issue.

thanks

Just a post to keep updated.

Having this issue too. Joomla 2.5.4 updated from 1.7 with default joomla updater. Issue detected using different themes and frameworks of different vendors (shape5 and yoothemes). Not a multilingual site.

Steps to get it:

1.- Order menu items (tried both using arrows and ordering numbers)
2.- Click on save button
3.- Click on rebuild menus
4.- Order missed -> It gives me the same order always, but not the desired one (the one I saved on step 2)

It happens both on main menu items and child items.

I have found a way to make it save and stay.
Open menu
Open the menu item you want to move.
Underneath the selection of "parent item" there is "Ordering"
Select the order in the menu you want (which ever one you select, it will go under it)
Click Save.
This way it actually saves and stays
yay

ahhh I take it back. Its neat and in order in the backend by doing the method above, but the front end, it is somewhat random. Maybe there are just too many menu items for Joomla to handle. About to lose a big client over this. Will have to sit in phpMyAdmin for a few hours and do it all the long way.

The order displayed in the front end depends on the menu item settings and your Template. Because many custom Templates don't honour menu item settings.
