error sending email

Post by kolera » Sun Feb 13, 2011 5:47 am

Hello!
i started using joomla 1.6 a week ago and is so far relly satisfied with it except for a few problems that i cant figure out how to solve.
the first and most bothering is the email settings.
i use joomshopping so i need that when people try and buy stuff on the page i recive an ordering email.
i hace tryed the 3 options in globalconfiguration/server/mail settings
first i tryed to choose PHPmailer in the mailer option and got this error messege
"An error was encountered when sending the user registration email. The error is: Could not instantiate mail function. The user who attempted to register is: prov".

so afterwards i tryed the sendmail option and got this error
"An error was encountered when sending the user registration email. The error is: Could not execute: /usr/sbin/sendmail The user who attempted to register is: provkatla"

so finally i tryed the SMTP option and got this error
"An error was encountered when sending the user registration email. The error is: SMTP Error! Could not connect to SMTP host. The user who attempted to register is: hejhej"

does someone have a clue what im doing wrong?
i really hope someone can help me out.
xiao

I have a similar problem.

I'm hosted on Godaddy, windows server, have tried all the same methods as listed above between choosing between PHP, Sendmail and SMTP. None of the options seems to work. Everything I try returns the "Could not instantiate mail function" error. I get this when doing anything that requires Joomla to send an E-mail (Registering new users, etc)

In the backend, I receive this message in my Messages tab:
An error was encountered when sending the user registration email. The error is: Could not execute: /var/qmail/bin/sendmail The user who attempted to register is:xxx

well then theres at least 2 of us, but no one seems to know any answers
im starting to think that my problem could be related to that im using joomshopping as a component but im not sure since all the configurations are in joomla and not in the component.
maybe i will have better luck in the joomshopping forum.
and if i find a solucion ill be back here to let you know.

I had the same problem that Roadbeer is reporting, after contacting GD support, we came up with this...

Under Global Config, Server tab...

Change to SMTP
Set SMTP Authentication to No
Security: None
Port: 25
Username: blank
Password: blank
SMTP Host: relay-hosting.secureserver.net

That should handle registration problems and mass mail issues
