"Articles" H1 tag appearing before the article title...

Hi guys,

Something weird is happening in my new 1.6 website. I've looked and looked before posting, but I really cannot find the problem.

On some the pages that are not related directly to a menu item (they are only linked through another article) the word "Articles" appears on the top of my page, in a H1 tag, at the place where my article title should be, and my title slightly below...

Anyone has the same problem? Or knows how to deal with this?

I am really tired of looking for it...Is this an editor problem, is this a joomla problem, did I do something wrong? I don't know...

This page http://test.medboat.com/index.php?optio ... 112&id=162 is not linked to a menu and has the horrible "Articles" at the top, how do I get rid of this?

Some strange behaviour in the options, print, email and PDF should be showing but it doesn't? If I enable "show articles category" they appear? - Could be a template issue....

Here's how to remove the H1:

1. Go to the menu manager, click on the menu item that needs the H1 removed

2. Click on Page Display Options on the right.

3. Show Page Heading -> click NO

Done!

What you say is perfectly correct, but the items that I have mentioned in my post are not directly linked from the menu. They are internal pages linked to from other articles or only the category is in the menu not the articles, same as Catherine's problem I think....

You are right Kevin, it's exactly my problem...

I'm now considering putting those articles on a menu that I will publish in a non-existing module position...That might just do the trick, but it's not exactly what I would call a solution... just a workaround...

I could really do with a solution, not a workaround, for a small site not a big deal but don't want to have to make up a menu for 100 plus pages....

Hopefully there will be a solution, but there doesn't seem to be many answers to problems with 1.6 at the moment, I hope the development continues and things haven't come to a stand still.

I am too far down the line, but I wish I had built this site in 1.5....

I am right there with you...Too far along in the process to go back to 1.5 (and there are some features I really want from 1.6, but could still workaround like I did before in 1.5 ) but still...I wish my website contracts came a little later this year...

So if anyone can help, if this can be in the next joomla 1.6 releass...please do!

Here is what I did to fix this:

Go to Global Configuration and Turn OFF Search Friendly URLs.
Click the menu item you created that linked to the article.
You will notice the link have an ItemID on the end
Example; "index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=14&Itemid=132"
You need to use that link inorder for the ugly ARTICLE up to no not appear hen you are direct linking from text or an image.

I understand your solution above, but having to do this for 100-200 articles is very time consuming, but thanks for your suggestion, I just may have to do that for now, what a nightmare!

Ah ignore the above figured it out, use the URL from the browser and not the Menu Item....

I actually have resorted to making a menu called Hidden Links and storing items in that until this bug is fixed. Thankfully I have a small site

That's what we have been using and it does not work, the link has to be a published menu link in the following format to get rid of the ugly "articles" heading:

......./index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=162&Itemid=546

Of course the published link can be in a hidden menu.

It's annoying as hell! Since I have a big site with more than 200 Articles without menu entry. Adding them to a hidden menu is not a solution. How could I explain this behavior to customers who write those articles? Embarrassing!

I upgraded to 1.6.1 still the same issue....

What you can do is make a language override ... in the languages/override folder add en-GB.override.ini

In it put
JGLOBAL_ARTICLES=""


In the meantime though you could also report it as a bug that there is no way to set the page title not to show globally.

Strange problem this, is it Joomla or is it the template?

The only reason I say this is that as stated above I had the same problem, I upgraded to 1.6.1 still the same.

I have a Joomlart template and had them fix an issue with the print and email icons, and since then this problem has disappeared!!!!!

The only thing for me now is that I cannot replicate or get the H1 to appear again, but I didn't want it there so I am happy!

Hi all,

I'm using Joomla 1.6.1

I created the language overide and it aslo worked for me, for the "ARTICLES" - so great, thanks for that.

But I also have a similar problem on my home page, where I have the word "HOME" appearing in the same location.

Any idea how to get rid of this?

If it is your home page, there is a menu link, so go edit the menu item and look for the show page heading, set that to no.

I went into Menu Manager, found my home page, then under "Link Type Options", set "Add Menu Title" to No.

Now all is sorted, many thanks.

I've found a solution which is not a hack, but you can fix your page whitout problem.
The source is:

Just copy PATH_TO_JOOMLA/components/com_content/views/article/tmpl/default.php file as described and modify it in your copy.

In the line 21

Code: Select all

<?php if ($this->params->get('show_page_heading', 1)) : ?>

change to

Code: Select all

<?php if ($this->params->get('show_page_heading', 0)) : ?>

Which means the deafult is false and it won't appears the H1 tag when the param isn't exists.

I had the issue of articles ads well when not linked to published menu. As stated by mcsmom the language tweaking solved it. I did not just add the text as suggested .

I changed: JGLOBAL_ARTICLES="Articles"
To" JGLOBAL_ARTICLES=""

in the language file I use , the thread http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p ... 5#p2410615 dealt with the same issue.
