Proper support for ancient browser

Post by CptIglo » Mon Sep 30, 2013 8:22 am

Hello,

Our company's Intranet site is coming along very nice. I'm starting to get the hang of using Joomla, alltough some things seem really unlogical for me. I'm getting there.

Now, using Joomla 2.5.7, so far I've been developing and testing on my own workstation here in the office, wich is running Internet Explorer 10.

Unfortunately, the users that are actually going to use the Intranet site, are limited to Internet Explorer 8 trough our Citrix system. Thats because some people are using programs that will only work properly on Windows Server 2003, so that limits us to use Internet Explorer 8, and even Office 2003!

In Internet Explorer 10, everything is fine, the site displays as it should, but in IE8 its missing the background, the buttons aren't styled the same as in IE10, and pieces of the banner aren't showing...

I've uploaded two screenshots, one from IE10 on my own pc, and one from within our Citrix company system, showing the website with IE8. I had to cover some parts of the screenshot with red blocks to cover up our company's name

So, my question is, how can I make the site work properly with IE8? Is there some modifying to be done somewhere, is there an extension that makes the website show properly.

The website's template is build with Artisteer, version 4

You're probably going to have to add a "Conditional Style Sheet"...

See:http://css-tricks.com/how-to-create-an- ... tylesheet/

and if you don't know about it, you'll want to read up on the use of "!important"

within a CSS property. See: http://coding.smashingmagazine.com/2010 ... to-use-it/
Don't HACK the Joomla! core, Instead "Extend" and/or "Override."
Stay ON the update path.
