Guests can see Registered Access Level

Post by Tregonia » Fri Jan 11, 2013 3:57 pm

I am getting frustrated trying to figure out what is up with my ACL. Guests and public are able to see registered content.

I created a "Guests" user group and Access Level and set them to the default for new users. I also have menu module and custom HTML module that have an ACL of Registered. However, if you go to the site, not logged in, you can see the both modules.

User Group
User group = Guests
Group Parent = Public

Access level
Level Title = Guests
Checkbox = only guests checked

I would love to know what I am missing

Out of curiosity why did you change the ACL, by default Joomla comes with group access configured so that if you tell modules to appear only as registered then they will only show when a registered user is logged in, i would guess the change is causing a conflict with the joomla default setup.

Whats the difference in your eyes between guests, public, and users and how you want them to interact with the site compared to public, registered (standard joomla model)?

Check this for an in depth view of ACL for Joomla 2.5

Everything I found in my searches told me to setup a guest ACL so I did. The default public vs registered ACL was doing the same thing as I described

Well i think I fixed it. I went in and changed the default registered ACL and group name "Registered Damaged" and created a new group and ACL called "Registered". Once I went in and set the newly created user group to the registered group, now everything is working.

It would appear that the default Registered ACL got corrupted somehow

Looks like I spoke too soon. I can not figure out why the ACL is so messed up

I took some screenshots and need to figure out why the "Subscribe" menu option is visible to the "Subscribed" ACL. Basically, the menu option is only viewable by "Guests" which is the default user group for non-logged-in users. Below is a set of screen shots to show what is set and what is not working

Here is the "Guests" User Group

Here is the "Guests" Access Level

"Guests" and "Subscribed" are set as the default user groups

The menu option is set to guests

This is the "Subscribed" Access Level. Guests is not checked

View of the site as a "Guest". Noitce that it says "Login" as proof of not being logged in
Image

View of the page as a "Subscribed" which shows that I am logged in

Can someone tell me what else I should check?
