Hello!

I am trying to migrate to 2.5 from 1.5.7. I found an extension that will do it for me, but I need 1.5.26 (I believe that was the version) for it to work. I am having a really difficult time trying to find an upgrade package to get up to the appropriate 1.5 version. Does any one have any suggestions for me? It sounds like I need to bunny hop up the versions, but I wasn't finding the correct ones.

Thank you,

Jennifer :geek:

You can update from your 1.5.7 to 1.5.25 via one of the "1.5.0_to_1.5.25" update patches available here and then from 1.5.25 to 1.5.26 via a patch from here.

Another option would be to override your current 1.5.7 by full 1.5.26, deleting the resulting /installation folder.

It goes without saying you're going to have a go at either of the two having backed up your folders/files/database(s).

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much! I will give that a try! Will a new install override old pages and data?

Oh, and I am using cpanel, so I can easily create full backups. :geek:

Thank you again!

Jennifer

You are welcome.

At the stage of updating from version to version within the same Joomla! family (which is within 1.5.x, in your case), you are actually overriding only your Joomla! system files. Your site's data per se with its content and references to your various settings (i.e. which users registered, which add-ons/templates installed, which module where positioned etc) actually resides in the database and remains intact (at least till upgrade from family 1.5.x to 2.5.x).

If you opt for unzipping the J! 1.5.26 archive over your current J! 1.5.7, I suggest you backup your /images folder and then, once you are on J! 1.5.26, move it back.

Thank you for the advice! I think I will try it out tomorrow, when I am thinking better!

Again, I really appreciate your help!

Hi! I tried both the upgrade patch and the full override, and in both cases I got an error stating that the XML Setup File could not be found. Here is a screenshot of what I was seeing:

What do I do now?

Thanks for the help!

Jennifer

You seem to be trying to use Joomla! extensions manager to update your site? If I am right, then you need to forget about it for a while and get under the hood either via your FTP client or your web hosting file management tools.

To see what I mean, please have a look at this wiki at http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrading_1.5_fr ... 5x_version (just reed "update" instead of incorrectly used "upgrade").

Hope this helps

Thanks! I went in through my file manager and that worked perfectly! Thank you!

Also, thank you for getting back to me so quickly. This is a duplicate version of the site on my server, and their actual site just got hacked for the second time this year. Getting this set up so they don't get hacked and have to worry about that dumb 0-day.gif anymore is really helpful.

I am making another backup so I can start the migration with jUpgrade. Wish me luck!

Jennifer

Glad to see it worked well for you. Sorry to hear about the troubles with the site. Keeping it up with the most current Joomla version will certainly make it more secure.

For full security checklist please read this wiki at http://docs.joomla.org/Security_Checkli ... ng_Started

Hope this helps

Thank you! I managed to get it upgraded to 2.5 without the site breaking, so I am really happy! Also, thank you for the link to the security information! That will be very helpful!

Thank you!

Jennifer
