When I updated from 1.6 to 1.7 Joomla changed the favicon back to the joomla logo and a banner I had in the header back to the one that came with the template....

The favicon I just dropped in via ftp and worked fine until this upgrade.

The banner I also dropped via ftp straight to the image folder in the template because there wasnt a mod or anything to change it by just point and click.

Just reporting this for future updates. Seems vary annoying to have to watch out for these things every update...

What template?
Do you also renamed the favicon?
or How do you replace the favicon before?

I dropped in a new favicon via FTP for the old one but i didnt rename it.

The template is beez5 which I noticed got updated too.

Joomla should take into account when they update template that it might effect the changes we make to them if we use them.

***I fixed the problem but wanted to report the error***

You shouldn't edit core templates - you should copy them and modify the copy. Changes made to core templates will be overwritten on every upgrade.

Well, I have the same issue with Ja Purity template now on Joomla 1.7
I changed the favicon.ico image to my favicon image in ja_purity_ii/ folder and that did not have any affect on the favicon display. I still see the Joomla favicon after a month.

Any ideas?

Yep a pain in the a**
But here's how I fixed it...

Rename the file to something like favicon2.ico and add it to the appropriate directory.
(Mine was ../templates/template name/images)

Open the file index.php in your template root directory, search for 'favicon' and change the file to the name you've chosen e.g.

From -> $XXXXX->favicon('favicon.ico');

To -> $XXXX->favicon('favicon2.ico');

Save the file and refresh your browser - done.

Try updating the favicon image under the location below if the "T3 Framework" is being used by your template.

{Site}\plugins\system\jat3\jat3\base-themes\default\images\favocon.ico
