upgrade Joomla 1.7 to Joomla 2.5

Post by 3d web design » Tue Feb 04, 2014 9:23 am

bafrazier wrote:I have been following the instructions on http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrading_from_J ... Joomla_2.5. The next thing it states is: "If you are unsure of the exact version of your 1.7.x or 2.5.x series then use Full package zip of the current 2.5.x from the Joomla download page". It does not tell me what will happen if I do this.
The problem is that quoted on many articles in joomla.org and on other websites zip packages are deleted long time ago from joomla's server. For example this non-existing page: http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrading_from_J ... Joomla_2.5

So, you can find the missing files to update Joomla 1.7 to Joomla 2.5 here:

I have an issue here, my site has been affected by malware, I contacted me hosting company and they told me if I upgrade my joomla to a newer version the problem would be solved. I saw your guide, I tried to follow it but there are no joomla updates in the system; even after I click on purge cache. Next I tried to click on find update but all I found was Akeebacore and google maps. I don't know what else to do, my site is on version 1.7.3, I started up with 1.6 initially.
Please can anyone help me, I'm getting really frustrated.

I am using Joomla 1.7.3 and when I click on purge cache I still get the message that no updates are available at the moment. Please check later. What am I doing wrong?

Update to 1.7.5 first.

Note: You have to be logged in to the repository to get the 1.7 update files.

Use the component by the url :-http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... tion/11658 and installed, we can easily changed 1.7 version to 2.5 by this component but it will take some time.

Thanks for the valuable guides that members shared in this thread. It can definitely help us in the future when we also want to upgrade 1.7 to 2.5. For those who are new with joomla, its good to use the latest version to avoid hassle in upgrading.

Issue solved. I found a copy of Joomla-1.7-to-2.5.0-Stable-Update-Package.zip and from there I upped to 2.5.22 then to 3.3.1.

I upgraded my Joomla! from 1.7 to 2.5 and have the problem, that the "My profile" button is not shown when a user has successfully logged-in. It appeared in 1.7 after a user has logged-in. Can someone give me a hint please?

After upgrading, some code changes in the login-module, which I just overwrote with the code from v1.7.

You cannot use code from Joomla 1.7 on Joomla 25 since all code of J17 is whacked. Besides that in December Joomla 25 will see End Of Life!

I have just upgraded my site from 1.7 to 2.5/ All appeared to have gone well until I tried to access one of the components that is installed. (a vehicle managing program for cars sales) When I click on any of the functions to access the program to edit or add a new vehicle I get a black page. ALL other components work as they should. I have been in touch with the software developer and they maintain that it is a Joomla issue. Yet I can find no reference to the vehicle manager in the error log.

Any one got any ideas? Thanks.

Hello there,

I am currently on 1.7.2 and trying to upgrade to 2.5 for now. I installed he package "Joomla_2.5.0-Stable-Update_Package.zip" via extension manager . I had to do it this way as I am getting "no updates available at the moment" message. As soon as I installed the package I got a fatal error and got the following error trying to access the admin page.

Failed opening required '/home/content/60/7919760/html/libraries/cms.php

I restored the web using go daddy, but need some direction as to how go about this update. Site is hacked many times and I am getting tired of paying to fix it every time.

appreciate you kind help in advance.

1. Update to 1.7.5. There is a bug in the updater of the earlier versions of 1.7
http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsre ... ackage.zip

Why do you upgrade to 2.5.0? The latest version is 2.5.28
http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsre ... ackage.zip

Note that 2.5 is expired and that you should go to 3.3

Thank Yngve Berg, I appreciate your response. I am however getting a copy error when trying to update to 1.7.5. The link you posted lists 1.7.0 to 1.7.5 and I am on 1.7.2 does that matter? I am thinking possible permission error and will contact godaddy and will post if still no go.

Thanks again.
